Happy Birthday Ruth Bader Ginsburg!

Happy Birthday, Ruth Bader Ginsburg!
Please join the West Virginia Faith Table in remembering Ruth Bader Ginsburg
(March 15, 1933-September 18, 2020).

Today, on what would have been her 90th birthday, we honor her as a tireless judicial champion for voting rights and democracy.

The words of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg remain to inspire us all.

“I think the notion that we have all the democracy that money can buy strays so far from what our democracy is supposed to be.”
On the 2010 Citizens United case, holding that corporations have a First Amendment right to spend unlimited sums supporting or opposing candidates in elections.

“Throwing out preclearance when it has worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes is like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.”

On Chief Justice John Roberts’ argument in the 2013 Shelby case that discrimination in the South had changed and that preclearance was no longer needed.
